Fuel Poverty Awareness Day: 23 February 2018 - NEA | NEA
Today is Fuel Poverty Awareness Day in UK
It is the national day to raise awareness of the problems of those living in cold, damp homes and the solutions available to tackle the problem. Today, we are releasing a new report that reveals the UK has the sixth-worst long-term rate of excess winter mortality out of 30 European countries, with an average of 9,700 deaths per year attributed to cold homes.
The day marks the official end of our Warm Homes Campaign, during which we have been highlighting the impossible choices faced by families unable to afford even the most basic of living essentials, and challenging Government to take action. Our most recent research showed that over 430,000 of the poorest children are living in private rented properties that are impossible to keep warm, with landlords failing in their duties to provide safe, decent housing.
