The European Policy Centre is delighted to invite you to the Annual Conference of the EU Energy Poverty Observatory (EPOV).
Improving indoor cooling is a key element of the fight against energy poverty as there is evidence OF A growing number of European households struggling to keep their homes comfortably cool in the summer time. Climate warming and a projected increase in heatwaves in Europe will also make indoor cooling increasingly important. Furthermore, the current COVID-19 crisis, its resulting containment measures, as well as the growing risks of future global pandemics, have brought to the fore the need for decent housing solutions. All this makes adequate cooling systems an urgent necessity.
The EPOV Annual Conference will explore the fundamental role of efficient and affordable cooling solutions in achieving the EU climate objectives and ensuring that the energy transition is socially just and benefits the most vulnerable. The discussion will also focus on how the EU, national, regional and local authorities, as well as other relevant stakeholders, can join forces and work together to promote green and affordable cooling systems.
The conference will open with pre-recorded remarks by European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and will conclude with a closing remarks from Ciarán Cuffe European Parliament rapporteur on energy efficiency in buildings.
