Social tariff for natural gas and electricity

The social tariff is a reduced tariff for electricity and natural gas aimed at certain categories of vulnerable consumers. The measure is funded through levies on electricity and gas. The energy regulator (CREG) calculates the social tariff every six months on the basis of the lowest available electricity and gas prices.

In 2016, 8.5% of all Belgian houesholds (460,000 contract) received the social tariff automatically.
